What is a VDS?

Trust you can scan

A Visible Digital Seal (VDS) is a tamper-proof, cryptographically-signed 2D code — a QR code, barcode or RFID tag — that embeds a document’s key data, electronically signed by its issuer. Anyone can scan it with a simple mobile app to confirm the data is intact and to authenticate who issued it.

VDSIC governs the global trust environment behind every seal: it accredits Scheme Operators, Certificate Authorities and VDS Service Providers against the ISO 22376 and ISO 22385 standards, so a seal issued anywhere can be verified everywhere.

Why VDS

Security made legible

Strong Authentication

Every seal is cryptographically signed by an accredited issuer, so its origin can be proven — not just claimed.

Tamper-Proof Integrity

A two-step hash over header and payload means any alteration after signing invalidates the seal instantly.

Offline Verification

Cached trust lists let a verifier validate a seal with no network connection — anywhere, any time.

Otentik Codes Reader

One reader to read them all

A VDS can live in a QR code, a barcode or an RFID tag — all read by one flexible, accessible app that performs the full trust-chain verification, even offline.
